Getting Started
What the tool is for and how its list works
What it does
The Texture and Node Manager is a Maya window that lists every texture file in the scene, shows at a glance which ones are missing from disk, and fixes their paths in bulk. Textures can be copied and retargeted to a new folder, moved to another drive letter, edited with find and replace, or found again by searching a folder tree, with a preview picker when several copies turn up. Duplicate file names that would overwrite each other are found and renamed on disk before a move. Shaders expand in place to show what is plugged into each channel, and one click renames shaders after their mesh and texture nodes after the channel they feed. It works with Maya file nodes and Octane image textures out of the box, and any other node type or texture attribute can be added from the window.
Opening the tool
Drag install.py into the Maya viewport. A shelf button is added to the current shelf; click it to open the Texture and Node Manager. Its window size and position, node types, favorites, exclusions and sort order are saved when you close it.
How the list works
The list is built from the entries in File Nodes. An entry that starts with "." is a texture attribute, and its rows show as Tex; any other entry is a Maya node type, and its rows show as Node. The defaults are .fileTextureName (Maya file nodes) and .File (Octane image textures). "The list" means the rows the table shows right now: the Filter box narrows it, so the buttons that act on the whole list only touch what you see, and they ignore expanded input rows.
Not covered here: Maya's own windows that the tool opens (Save As, the folder browser and the image editor).
